Purity Novena and 40 Day Challenge…Again!

Having spent very little time updating Men of Hope it occurred to me that I should heed my ‘past mistakes’ to avoid the undue complacency that I often find accompanies spiritual laziness.  When I talk of laziness I don’t mean I have stopped praying – merely that my prayer lacks conviction.  I have avoided the sins associated with pornography for some time but now find myself feeling unexpected and unwanted ‘tugs’ toward impurity.  It is a ‘longing for past pleasures’ that even now, has the power to corrupt my ‘good’ intentions.  In short – it is time to remind myself of the need for vigilance.  I am vulnerable…
Can I also send out a plea to our new members to take this challenge – there is much to gain.
St. John Marie Vianney says of sins of impurity,
“Those who have lost their purity are like a piece of cloth stained with oil; you may wash it and dry it, and the stain always appears again: so it requires a miracle to cleanse the impure soul.”
This is the lesson we must all heed and that is why I have decided to redo the Purity Novena and Covenant Eyes 40 day challenge.  I will also review the self help units to be certain I have all my armour and weapons in place when needed.
If you are reading this now then I encourage you to go to the Self Help section (then select Other Groups) and try the same yourself.  As I complete some of the different challenges I will update you all on my thoughts.
Of course, make sure you donate your novena and prayers via the Rosary Crusade page 🙂

  1. I hope you have just finished watching the introduction to the challenge and have downloaded your journal ready to start properly tomorrow. This time I will highlight different days from when I first used this challenge.

If you follow alongside me then you will complete this on New Years Eve and be free to celebrate the New Year in true catholic fellowship. Now that is the way to start a new year 🙂

If you read this later then don’t worry – just start the challenge and DON’T forget the self-help units either…

  2. I don’t know if I want to be a member but I am going to try the challenge. I am catholic but have football on Sunday so can’t get to Mass. Does that matter? I hate that I can’t stop looking at pornography and some of the stuff you have written is like looking in a mirror. I don’t get the cross dressing stuff you talk about but I do have some problems of my own.

I’ve got a family and it does scare me that my boy may find my internet history – especially after reading that account ‘Bless me Father I killed my son’. Creepy!

  3. Sorry for the delay in replying to this post. First things first – football does not come before Mass…EVER! One of the reasons I struggled so much was that I too put a sport before God. Remember, you need the sacraments more than ever if you wish to have success in this battle. I don’t know of any sacraments obtained via football. Perhaps winning the World Cup 🙂

If you have a family then ‘Bless me Father…’ should scare you – it happened. Pornography is a selfish activity and if you have a family is destructive to the sacrament obtained in this vocation.

As for understanding my addiction it is not important. As you say, you have problems of your own. They may make no sense to me but that doesn’t mean the solution is any different.
