A member’s update for Christmas

Hi James
Sorry about the late reply. Work has been crazy.
I’m just emailing to give you a status update.  I’ve recently invested in Covenant Eyes and have gotten one of my close friends to be an ally.  I find it helps quite a bit. Taking away the main source of temptation by making myself accountable has made things a lot easier.  My “ally” has managed 1 year without viewing impure material / committing impure acts etc.
I’ve been following your daily updates.  They have been a great help.  I did try commenting on a few but the website flags me up as a “bot”.  I’m afraid I can’t keep count of the number of days like yourself.  I find that if I count over 2 weeks I “give up”.  I think it’s similar to what you’ve experience during lent perhaps.  I did previously keep a log of days but now I just update the log to show last 24 hours.  I guess it’s to remind myself that I have to take this one day at a time.
Hopefully I can make 4 weeks eventually.  The temptations are terrible sometimes.  I often cannot sleep.  I’m looking forward to the day that they ease off.  Every time temptation strikes I’ve taken to saying “I do not consent to this sin”.   It seems to work well and it helps me to realize that I’m not a slave to this.  I do have a choice.
Today is particularly difficult so I thought I would email you etc.
I hope you and the family had a good Christmas!
All the Best
Moh

  1. Thank you so much for the update and trust me you are progressing exactly as I would expect. This is success in my eyes and should be in yours too. I am glad you have found a sponsor just make sure you are totally honest with him about your ‘early’ triggers for web searches. If you fall then tell him before he finds out…

The cross we carry as addicts is for life. The temptations are like riding a river: smooth, swift or very turbulent! The more we have to fight the more graces we earn ourselves – aren’t we lucky. A really good idea to write when things are worst – that is what I do.

Can you start a daily diary of your own efforts/failures/activities etc. It doesn’t have to be exciting or well written – just honest emotion…including despair. Learning to be open about your emotions helps a lot…

I will check the site reference messages – you are the only one who seems to have a problem so far. I know you are busy but one positive challenge is to submit your daily successes on the Rosary Crusade page – every proper denial of temptation counts as 1. Why don’t you submit them in batches of 5 days. That way you can see your efforts push the counter upward.

Keep up the struggle and you will eventually find it easier.

Yours in Jesus, Mary & Joseph
