Accountable2U

I have tried to use a number of different software packages to help reduce my pornography usage.  I have discovered that this app provides a cheap and flexible solution for accountability.  When set up properly your nominated partner will be sent either daily or weekly internet usage reports AND there is an option for them to also receive instant mobile alerts for high-risk searches.  You are also able to input trigger words that will flag up on any of your future searches.

Covenant Eyes

I have used the resources from Covenant Eyes on a regular basis and find many of the articles useful in understanding my own battle with pornography and sexual addiction.  I subscribed to several of their e-books and am participating in the ’40 day challenge’ and ‘Purity Novena’ which they sponsor via e-mail.
This is an American Christian Faith based service and the majority of the blogs and article contributions are heavily biased to ‘lay ministry work’.  However, I would urge anybody who is keen to get to grips with their addiction to start reading some of their articles.  It is not Catholic based but it is most certainly effective for those wishing to find a way forwards.
I have no knowledge of their accountability packages though the reviews do appear to support them.

Sexaholics Anonymous

S.A. is a self help group that uses a ’12 step’ program based on the Alcoholics Anonymous format.  All membership details are held in strict confidence and meeting locations are not divulged to unapproved persons.  Meetings are generally 2 hours long and have specific rules of conduct – they do operate a ‘voluntary’ contribution to cover costs.  If you are unable to attend meetings they also operate phone or VoIP groups.  Once part of a group you can be assigned a mentor who will take you through the 12 steps of recovery.
If you have a meeting group in your vicinity then I would definitely recommend you attend. The support provided is excellent and I only stopped attending because of the 5 hour round trip journey.  It has a Christian based approach and recognises the necessity to surrender to God.  Be aware, however, it does cater for ‘all’ definitions of God and hence lacks the finite position on mortal sin as defined in the Catholic Church.
