Day 3 – Practical steps to quitting

I thought I would mention the intentions for Day 4 of the purity novena. It is a plea to ask for the impure images we have seen to be removed from our thoughts.  Though the reality suggests this request is impossible it never hurts us to ask God when we are at a loss to solve our own problems.  For Him, nothing is impossible. My own thoughts are often plagued by images I have seen and it takes all my energy to ‘bat them away’.  I also accept that though I ask for these memories to be taken away it is God’s desire that I continue to suffer them as a means to offer up ‘for others’.  But I still ask…
In Day 3 of the challenge we are given a number of practical steps that we must apply if we are to have any success in overcoming our sexual temptations.  You will probably recognise the same principles applied in the MOH self help units.  There are no magic answers – it is all common sense stuff!

My Conclusion:
He identifies 6 key strategies in this plan:
Education / Boundaries / Goals / Exit strategy / Fasting / Motivations
Please make sure you listen and understand what he says – this is crucial if you are to continue.  He is correct when he states that we must ‘plan for the worst’ when we feel at our best.  At this moment I have no intention of viewing pornography – so NOW is the best time to ensure all of my filters and safety strategies remain effective in my daily battle.
The other point he makes is the need for sexual fasting (6-8 weeks).  In fighting the damage we have done to our brains we must allow it the time to recover…and accept that we will be plagued by withdrawal symptoms. Plan your safety barricades well.

If any of you think I am over addiction then think again.  God has not chosen to remove all of my lustful memories (despite my prayers) so I must chose to keep on fighting. I accept it is not God’s fault and it is not his responsibility to help me with my daily choices.  I have recognised that one of my biggest motivators is that God wants me to offer up my daily sufferings – he knows that I am strong enough for this cross.  That is why he permits me to carry it.  This is all about the correct exercise of our God given ‘free will’.
Also – a big welcome to Vianney.  Thank you for your comments to my post and I encourage you to keep on the good fight.  Let me know if you do wish to chat online.
Can I send out a plea to everyone who reads these posts – Please Comment 🙂
