The dictionary of shame

Porn can stop you having children

There are a growing number of scientific studies to measure the harmful affects of pornography on young and old men (and women).  Though ‘current’ medical science disputes much of the findings there is clearly a problem developing amongst the younger men of this generation.  Anecdotal evidence is mounting to suggest a clear link between porn use, masturbation and erectile disfunction.  However, I think we all accept this is a real problem and is destroying our future catholic families.
It is my aim, within this Fellowship, to cover a diverse range of topics that encompass sexual addiction & pornography use.  Most of the subjects will form core reading within the Self Help Units – Stage 2 & 3.  Once we have gained sufficient control of our selfish need for lust (Stage 1) we then need to understand how it so easily manipulates our decision making abilities. Hence the ‘real’ need to continue with the Fellowship and complete the other units.
Father Brucciani has recently suggested this is a subject that needs to be highlighted so I have put together a short article and an accompanying video produced by Covenant Eyes.  I would strongly advise you to start researching this subject if the problem is affecting you or your current addiction is ‘likely’ to become a problem.
Erectile disfuntion is not thought to affect older men in the same destructive way it does the young.  This is linked directly to the rapid advances in internet pornography.  From my own experience I can well remember how difficult it was to obtain ‘porn mags’ before the internet existed.  The content was limited to the magazine or photographs and the brain was therefore ‘limited’ to what it could see.  There was certainly no easy opportunity for rapidly expanding sexual interests and the neural pleasure pathways never formed – as they do now.  So in a sense, I never felt that ‘intense’ craving for pornography that I began to feel once the internet sites started to appear.
However, the youth of the internet generations are finding themselves barraged by a constant and never ending variety of sexual images that ‘change’ at a click.  At an age when the brain is still forming it is being attacked and distorted by dangerous visual impulses that are destroying the natural sexual development responses.  Their neural pathways are constantly seeking bigger dopamine hits as the requirement for more intense or disturbing images dominates sexual cravings.  Suddenly our young men are discovering that the constant need for internet porn is destroying their ability to ‘interact sexually ‘within the confines of a marriage. In affect, a natural loving relationship with your wife is not sufficently stimulating to release the chemicals required to cause an erection.  Young men have ‘made themselves’ impudent…
We know that one of the core purposes of marriage is procreation. So how can you make a ‘licit’ agreement to marry if you go into the relationship knowing you are impudent, without first notifying your ‘intended’ of your impediment. It certainly raises a moral uncertainty and perhaps one a priest could enlighten us on in the comments below?
This is a betrayal of God’s Will and a ‘deliberate’ act against catholic families.  I implore you to watch the video and recognise the time has come to STOP.

When are you going to start taking this addiction seriously?
