Just Say No to Pornography

Having a whale of a time!

The Daily Mail – PORN HUB celebrate ’10 years of porn’.

The most problematic area to research on the internet is pornography and its effects.   Which is not surprising when you consider that relatively innocent search terms will return the most unexpected and unwanted results.   As an addict I must also remain vigilant to the dangers such searches may present to my own recovery.  Calling on the protection of The Holy Ghost to guard my eyes and soul from harm is crucial if I am to continue to bring information useful to other users of this site.
Whilst researching how pornography changes the brain I stumbled upon some statistics produced by a well known adult website.  What was most alarming to me was the manner in which they were presented to the public.  The Daily Mail Online produced an article on 26 May 2017 in which it seems to celebrate the success of this particular company and its ‘bevy of statistics’ on how the public view the world’s 44th most popular site!
“Despite such a massive increase in content, the average viewer actually spends less time watching porn today than they did ten years ago.”
It is not my intention to comment on the facts presented but merely to use this article as another example of how society is being cajoled into recognising pornography as an acceptable ‘pastime’ for those who wish to use it.  It is interesting that despite the well known harm pornography causes, the writer seems unwilling to present any ‘health warnings’ or other preventative messages to its audience.  Some of whom may be children as there is no age restriction shown.
The headline makes a bold statement that we are watching far less adult content than before, yet the article provides no substantive evidence to support an actual reduction in porn use/user.  In fact, it goes on to report that the advent of broadband has had an impact on reducing the time a user has to spend downloading adult content.  It makes no reference to other well known adult sites that will also be part of a ‘porn’ search cycle.  I can say without reservation that these companies use ‘click bait’ to move you to other sites – hence ‘nine more pages’ to add to the real viewing total?
“In 2017, PornHub visitors spent nine minutes clicking through just nine pages.”
What I find more disturbing is the lack of discussion about why a user needs ‘any’ minutes of adult content?  I can report that nine minutes is sufficient time for me to commit a mortal sin and damage my brain.  I feel they treat this subject in the same manner they do ‘cannabis use’.  There appears to be a societal acceptance that pornography is a harmless recreational activity for consenting adults.  Yet many studies and documentaries provide evidence of the dangers presented by this legal activity.
It is not my right to condemn the media outlets or the author of this article.  Indeed, in today’s society such a stance could lead to moral outrage and even legal action.  You don’t need to look very far to see what happens to anybody who dares to suggest that a person’s ‘right’ is in fact harmful and morally wrong.  We are now happy as a country to allow our children to freely access adult content, whether by virtue of unsupervised access to the internet or indeed through watching the latest ‘safe’ media content.  (You Tube, Mainstream TV, Netflix etc)
Just look at this last statement and tell me what you think the emphasis is on?
“Whether one views on their desktop or mobile device, they certainly have a wide array of videos to choose from. In 2007, 134 hours of video were uploaded to the site. A decent number, but nothing in comparison to the 476,921 hours uploaded in 2016.”
To me, this is all about the massive choice and quantity now available to users.  The tone is ‘positive’ and words such as ‘decent’ do nothing to dampen the support they appear to show for this public online service.  This is a well known newspaper outlet showing clear support, indirectly perhaps, of pornography.
And now for just a few of the harmless statistics:
  • over 75% of people visit Pornhub on their smartphones and tablets.
  • over 10 million videos and 1.5 million hours of content uploaded.
  • 75 million visitors per day, and 22 million registered users.
Playing in front of my new trees!

SOMETHING GOOD FROM PORN:

– Pornhub donated £28,825 to ‘Save the Whales’ in 2017.
– Its first Pornhub Scholarship  in 2015?
– Planted 15,473 trees in 2014.

Perhaps a final point to note in their facts and figures is that Pornhub launched a ‘sexual wellness center’ and a ‘Pornhub Cares’ campaign in 2017.
Yours in Jesus, Mary and Joseph.
